I've honestly never investigated them despite the band being held up as a pivotal act. Perhaps one day i shall dip into a few albums here and there.

All I've really heard was Touch of Grey and whatever else they used to play on classic rock stations. They could be the best band in the world and I would never know or care because some of their fans just rub me so much the wrong way I've had no interest in investigating them at all. The early acid test stuff with Ken Kessey sounded kinda cool but like everything in that movement it just seemed like a bunch of middle class kids who were bored compared to the image given to them later as some sort of revolutionary movement, but that might just be my general beef with hippies and their failed counter culture movement overall, which the Grateful Dead seemed to be smack dab in the middle of. But if you like them that's awesome, just don't be playing one their numerous bootlegs with 20 minute jams for me and expect me to "get" it or care.

Grateful Dead have I never listened much too, I`m sure there must be a song or two that has fastened to my mind, but I have no grounds to either cast shit on them or praise them.

A hippie colleague of wifey, a almost 60 year old long haired excentric chap, who likes Gong, Black metal, country, pop etc, etc, has a music club with other likeminded, and they have only one rule: Do not throw shit on bands the other members like. I like that rule and should wish I could follow it myself

Gotta love The Dead! I spent many hours listening to them in the car on camping/fishing trips when I was younger. Pops was a huge Deadhead. He had 2 drawers full of live Grateful Dead. At that time I tolerated them but they didn't do much for me.
Now, I really like them! I've expanded my musical tastes much since I was a brooding teen. I think the Pig Pen era is my favorite so far. I'm kind of rediscovering them for the 1st time. I'm glad my Pop was into good music. It made a huge impact on me.
